We have some fantastic news! Our very own Benji Davies has been nominated for The Booktrust Best Book Awards 2014. Benji’s hauntingly beautiful book “The Storm Whale” published by Simon and Schuster has been entered into the 0-5 years category for Best Picture Book which was announced last week. The Booktrust Best Book Awards (sponsored by Amazon Kindle) celebrates and recognises top British talent in children’s publishing and we couldn’t be more proud of Benji and his “Storm Whale” to make it into these prestigious awards. The 0-5 years category takes into account both the writer and the artist, acknowledging authors and illustrators as equal creatives for most engaging books for the younger readers.
“The Storm Whale” is an enchanting story about a lonely little boy called Noi, who finds a washed up whale on the shore after a storm and decides to take care of him. As the story develops both animal and boy develop a relationship in which Benji’s captivating illustrations convey the warmth and affection of their relationship.
The judging panel includes children’s laureate Malorie Blackman, bake-off host Mel Giedroyc and Charlie & Lola creator, Lauren Child. 300 lucky children will have the chance to win tickets to attend the star-studded ceremony in central London during children’s book week (30 June – 4 July). But another chance to get involved is to register online (as a parent, school, library or fan) and vote for your favourite. We know who we’re voting for!
