Bright Star, award winning and leading children’s Author & Illustrator Sue Hendra is celebrating World Book Day, Thursday 5th March this year at Crowne Plaza Kensington, London with an exclusive reading of her newly published sequel, ‘Dave’s Breakfast Blast-off’ (Hachette Children’s Books).
From 10.30am Sue, the inspirational author responsible for family favourites across the UK, including Barry the Fish with Fingers, No-Bot the Robot with no Bottom, and Wanda the Alien, now a hit animation broadcast on Channel 5’s Milkshake!, will hold an exclusive reading of her latest book ‘Dave’s Breakfast Blast-off’. Introducing children between the ages of five-six to the belly roaring antics of the greedy feline terror Dave, Sue will bring the book to life in her own spirit, followed by a drawing session giving kids the opportunity to explore their own interpretations of this next hit story.
Now in its 17th year, World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators and books and most importantly reading. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, the event is now marked in over 100 countries and supported by some of the world’s biggest names in children’s publishing. Supporting the UNESCO accredited event, Crowne Plaza Kensington’s library will play host to a warm, inspiring and welcoming venue to enjoy a literary escape. Throughout the day, the hotel will offer its readers complimentary tea, coffee and Krispy Kreme doughnuts to enjoy in the comfort of its stylish library, overlooking the hotel’s tranquil townhouse gardens.

This year, Crowne Plaza Kensington will join in the celebrations supported by one of World Book Day’s official charities www.readathon.org. Following a day of literary indulgence, guests will be invited to an evening reception with the Readathon team, to gain insight into their campaigns to encourage reading in children through sponsored reading challenges, enabling them to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and into their adult life. Through its national school sponsored read, Readathon provides free books for participating schools and seriously ill children in hospitals across the country.
We are immensely proud and excited about Sue’s participation in World Book Day this year – supporting the belief that every child in the world should undoubtedly have the ability to read and share the joy of story telling. As part of our Bright ethos to do more for the artists, we are organising further exciting book events this year and will continue to encourage all our creatives to take their work further than the book store and fully engage with their readers.
